Sample Comments on the
Citizen Pollution Complaint Process

Here is a sample letter.

Dear TNRCC Commissioners Robert Huston, Ralph Marquez and John Baker;

I am very concerned about the poor record of the TNRCC in responding to citizen pollution complaints.  Every effort should be made by the TNRCC to follow up on complaints in a timely manner whenever and wherever problems are occurring.  The TNRCC should make available brochures to explain to citizens how the complaint and enforcement processes are supposed to work.  Right now, it only has such a brochure for the polluters.

Citizen-gathered evidence should be given serious consideration, and not disregarded.  Companies should be required to have adequate monitoring equipment so that dangers to the public health and the environment can be acted upon swiftly.  The TNRCC should get tough on polluters, not make excuses for them as it has done so many times in the past.

Every Texan has the right to clean air, water and land.  The TNRCC should make this goal into a reality for all.
